Alteya Organics Rose Otto Regenerating Concentrate

julij 29, 2018

It looks like this year it has been all about serums for me. In the winter I was thinking to myself that I need to get a nice, hydrating, preferably an aloe vera based serum and then it started happening on the serum front and I now have a considerable collection (see some of them here). If you have dehydrated skin, then using a serum is a must but all other skin types respond really well to a good serum as well. So I found another beautiful serum which I've been using for a few weeks and I really like it. It's from Alteya Organics, a brand that was born in 1999 but growing and caring for roses has been a family tradition for over a century, since the early 1900's. Their organic rose fields, shielded by the slopes of two majestic mountain ranges, are in the heart of the Bulgarian Rose Valley, the land of Thracian Kings and home to the world’s finest flower – the Bulgarian Rose.

I already love and use their 100% pure Certified Organic Bulgarian Rose Water*. It's such a beautiful product to use after I finish applying my makeup (read my review here). I'm also intrigued by their Rose Otto Facial Toner which in addition to Rose Water also contains Gylcerin, and two other ingredients. It sounds hydrating because of the Glycerin and I will have to give it a try. But now let's rather talk about the serum, the Rose Otto Regenerating Concentrate*. I was gifted this product and I'm so happy I was because I don't know if I would order it anytime soon. This serum is based on Distilled Thermal Water, Glycerin, Aloe Leaf Powder. The active ingredients in the product are Rose Otto, Mullein Flower, which protects skin from photo-oxidative stress and Marine Bio-Active Complex, which helps to fight wrinkles and sagging skin.

At Alteya they say that "this High-Performance Regenerating Serum deploys its youth-enhancing effectiveness, with visible results to the naked eyes, in less than 15 minutes after first use! It helps transform texture, reduce wrinkles and improve skin`s luminosity, day after day, reaching its optimum effectiveness in 30 days of use." It's so hard for me to say if this is true or not because I wasn't that attentive. I also didn't read their promises prior to using this product so I wasn't paying as much attention as I probably should. All in all I believe that products that support well-aging are best to use on a daily and for a few months to really see the difference. But after a few weeks of using it my skin indeed looks nice and properly hydrated. This product is very light, smells of Roses and is just really lovely.  The serum glides on the skin, it is quickly absorbed and feels lightweight and yet very hydrating. Skin is softer, more plump & radiant, which is very typical when it comes to hydrating products. The serum also layers really well - I apply it after my face toner/mist and before an oil and/or cream.

Rose Otto Regenerating Concentrate is a beautiful product and I really like using it. It makes me very excited to try more Alteya Organics products and that's usually how you know you found a good brand.

Have you tried it or any other products from Alteya Organics?

"Lean on Me" with Fleurs D'Afrique

julij 24, 2018

Hi babes! Hope you're all having a lovely start of the week. I'm coming at you today with a product that is featured in the new August Boxwalla Beauty Box*. As Boxwalla brand ambassador I already received the August box so I can share with you my first impression and tell you if the box is really worth getting. Boxwalla is the beauty box that I get most questions about so let me just quickly go through a few things and then down bellow is the review of Fleurs D'Afrique.

Boxwalla is a bi-monthly subscription service. They offer a selection of three boxes: Beauty, Book and Film. I like the sound of all but Beauty Box is indeed my fave. You only have to pay for one box in advance ($49) which is so awesome because it gives you a chance to really see if you want the next box or not. So the August Beauty Box was revealed a few weeks ago and if you like what you hear you can subscribe to Boxwalla until August 1st and get it. Subscription auto-renews next time (in this case it will be for the October box) but Lavanya reveals the content way in advance so if you don't like it you can easily cancel your subscription. I know that not everyone enjoys the surprise that usually comes with subscription boxes and if you're nodding at that, then Boxwalla is the one for you. You will always know what you get and I think that's a very smart move from Boxwalla. BUT if I 'm completely honest, Boxwalla can surprise me anytime because their selection is ALWAYS so on point and so exciting! Just to mention another thing that often pops into my DM's (which I don't mind at all because I love chatting with you!), since this box is shipped from the States, us Europeans are always worried about paying customs fees. In depends on the country but I've received a number of Boxwalla boxes and I rarely have to pay customs. If you have some other questions, hit me up.

African Botanics Fleurs D'Afrique August Boxwalla Beauty Box Lean on Me. Marula, Kalahari Melon, Baobab, Retinol, Jasmine
Now let's move on to the August Beauty Box themed "Lean on Me" featuring a new-to-me brand African Botanics and their Fleurs D'Afrique Intense Recovery Oil. African Botanics is definitely not a new brand but I have never tried their products before. African Botanics was founded in 2012 by Julia and Craig Noik from South Africa, and they were inspired by the Marula trees growing wild in the Savannah, steeped in South African traditions. The oil from the marula tree has been used for centuries in South Africa to protect skin from harsh weather conditions and so they created a line formulated around the potent marula oil. The inspiration for Fleurs D'Afrique came from "witnessing nocturnal blooming flowers from ancient Baobab Trees & intoxicating wild Jasmine."
A quick fact about Baobab trees: there are a few very old Baobab trees, aged between 1,100 and 2,500 years, and in the last decade nine of the 13 oldest trees have either died or their oldest parts have collapsed and died, most probably due to climate change. Heartbreaking.

I really don't know where to start with this product - their ingredients, packaging, benefits, my experience?? Fleurs D'Afrique is such a luxurious product and this is shown in every detail. The Intense Recovery Oil comes in a blue-ish frosted glass bottle with a dropper. I do like the packaging because it's a bit different. I only have two products with this kind of dropper style and I like it. The oil comes in this huge black box which is very proper but as someone who prefers less packaging I could do with a smaller box, if any box at all. But the whole feeling and the design speaks luxurious and it is very on brand. The ingredient list is amazing: from Kalahari Melon and Marula Seed Oils, Rosehip, Roobios, Honeybush and Jasmine, Rose, Immortelle to Microalgaea and Retinol. Yes, this product contains Retinol and I've never used a product containing it. A word of caution: products with retinol are best to avoid while pregnant and breastfeeding. I believe it's also best to use it only in the evening.
African Botanics Fleurs D'Afrique August Boxwalla Beauty Box Lean on Me. Luxurious
This oil has a potent concentration of highly advanced marine biotechnology that is packed with anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, soothing and healing properties. It is ideal for skin exposed to urban stress, UV damage, pollution, harsh climate and is recommended for hormonal, mature, unbalances, seborrheic and sensitive skin. It pretty much helps with everything and after only a few uses I believe that to be true. I have absolutely no clue how they did it, but know that Fleurs isn't your typical facial oil. I can hardly express my feelings for this oil because I literally can't believe that a product can be so effective in such a short amount of time. How?! I've seen RAVE reviews of this product but I really didn't expect it to be that good. I had high expectation and it met AND surpassed them. It is just amazing! And I'm saying this after only a few uses, I cannot even imagine what it will do to my skin in weeks to come. I've only been using it in the evenings, a few drops is all it takes. I love that it is lightweight, which agrees with my combination skin so much, and it's also a great oil for summer. The scent is strong and honestly it is not my favourite. I can't figure out what I'm smelling but I was expecting a Jasmine or a Rose scent. It's nothing like that. I don't know what I'm smelling but I don't love it as much as some do.

UPDATE on the scent: After talking to Lavanya from Boxwalla and Julia from African Botanics I guess I'm smelling wild African Helichrysum (which has a different scent profile from the Italian Imortelle). I wish I could have this plant on hand so I could compare it to the oil. :)
African Botanics Fleurs D'Afrique August Boxwalla Beauty Box Lean on Me. Lightweight Texture
How do I incorporate it into my evening skincare routine?

First I wash my face with either Moss Beurre Céleste* from the June Boxwalla Box (review), Leahlani Pamplemousse* or Mono Naturoils Rose & Cucumber Cleansing Oil*. If I'm wearing makeup I do a second cleanse with Earthwise Beauty Marshamallow Face Cleanser*, which is so lovely! Then I spray my face with Hannes Dóttir Mineral Mist* from June Art of Organics box (review), apply some Alteya Organics Rose Otto Regenerating Concentrate* and then comes Fleurs D'Afrique. OR I apply the mist, the oil and then a small amount of Ayuna Cream Light* - what a beautiful combination!

My skin is plumper, so much more even & balanced than it was before, it is less red and inflamed, and it just looks very good. Two days ago I squeezed some blackheads and the next day I could hardly see where they were, which doesn't really happen ever. As for the effect on fine lines and hyperpigmentation, I have to use it for a longer. My skin is NOT flawless, yet haha, but there really is such a great difference in the texture and whole appearance of my skin that it actually makes me smile. Saying this may sound vain but if you never had problems with your skin then you really don't understand how amazing can clear and healthy skin make you feel. Prior to this oil I've been using another gorgeous oil for oily, congested skin, the Harmony Bloom Oil* from Wild Beauty Apothecary. I'm still using it in the mornings and this one also helps to balance out my skin. I'm in love with the oil and the brand and will do a review soon.
African Botanics Fleurs D'Afrique Intense Recovery Oil August Boxwalla Beauty Box Lean on Me
Is there anything else to say other than I'm SO impressed with this oil and I really highly recommend trying it out. Now onto the value. African Botanics Fleurs D'Afrique has a whooping value of $250!! By joining Boxwalla you can get it for $49.95. OMG isn't that bonkers?!

Subscribe to Boxwalla until August 1st to get the August Beauty Box - click here.

Fleurs D'Afrique, I have a feeling you are worth the hype.

If you have any questions, I'm here for you.

Much love,

Jana xx

Sappho New Paradigm Complexion Collection

julij 21, 2018

Ready for the Complexion Collection? Let me introduce you to the new Beauty Heroes Makeup Discovery*, this time with a new-to-me brand that I've always wanted to try, Sappho New Paradigm. This Canadian brand was founded by JoAnn Fowler, an Emmy nominated makeup artist. To me Sappho is mostly known for their Essential Foundation and I've always read glowing reviews from fellow bloggers. So when I heard there's going to be samples of this foundation and their CC Cream in this Limited Edition box I was most excited. Not only because of the hype but also because I was just in need of a new base product, after I used up the amazing BB Cream Foundation* by Inika.

Sappho Limited Edition Makeup Discovery or Complexion Discovery comes with CC Cream + Concealer (you can choose from 5 different shades), Vegan Mascara and 2 or 3 deluxe samples of Essential Foundation. You can choose from 5 different shades: Fair, Light, Medium, Caramel and Dark. Check it out here.
Complexion Collection Sappho New Paradigm Limited Edition Makeup Discovery Beauty Heroes CC Cream, Concealer in Light, Vegan Mascara, Essential Foundation in Rachel, Lisa and Leisha

Sappho New Paradigm Complexion Collection Limited Edition Makeup Discovery Beauty Heroes Vegan CC Cream, Concealer in Light
CC Cream in Light
This silky CC Cream is made with ingredients like Aloe Vera, Jojoba & Coconut Oils, Pomegranate, Apple, Pineapple and more. It doesn't really have a scent - it is mild and very non invasive. I picked the second lightest shade and it matches me perfectly! The shade Light has a yellow undertone and it really suits my skin tone so well. It looks really dark when it first comes out the tube but it actually isn't that dark. The CC Cream feels very lightweight, it honestly feels like I'm not wearing it and I love that so much, especially when it's so hot outside. It has a light coverage and it just beautifully evens out my tone. It doesn't really cover my acne scars (redness) or freckles, but it just gives a slight tint and like I said, makes the skin more evened out. But don't get me wrong, the coverage is definitely there, it is light but not like so light that you feel like you're not using a foundation. The finish is more on the matte side, it's not dewy or oily looking. My prefered way of applying it is with my fingers. I love the more natural makeup look and this CC Cream gives me just that. It doesn't last all day but since it matches my skin perfectly and has a light coverage I don't really notice if it disappears from my skin a bit. That usually happens around my nose and on my chin. Thankfully it works very well with my beloved Au Naturale Pink Champagne Powder Blush*, which lasts on me all day. To me this CC Cream is so stunning and I pretty much love everything about it (wish it was in a glass bottle, like I always do when it comes to products). Lightweight, perfect colour match and vegan & cruelty free. Check it out here.
Sappho New Paradigm Complexion Collection Limited Edition Makeup Discovery Beauty Heroes Concealer in Light Vegan
Concealer in Light
"The hydrating concealer blends in flawlessly for a natural “un-foundation” look, formulated with a base of coconut, jojoba, sunflower and carnauba waxes and infused with line-softening, organic argan oil, anti-inflammatory licorice and soothing chamomile." Concealer is also in the shade Light, which unfortunately isn't the same shade as the CC Cream. Concealer is much lighter and has more of a pink undertone. For me it's a bit too light at the moment and maybe it will be better in the winter. Which is such a shame because this baby is lovely! It's very pigmented and a little goes a long way. It has quite a powdery texture and it's not oily at all, which means it doesn't budge easily. Since the colour is too light for me I've been only wearing it under my eyes and I do have to say that it makes my face/area under my eyes look brighter. Not mad about that. It also doesn't feel drying but keep in my mind that I always prep my skin with an oil before applying makeup. It lasts really well on me, pretty much the entire day. Sometimes I also apply it on my blemishes but then I always have to go in with the RMS  "un" cover-up in 11*. Pigmented, not oily and vegan & CF, like all Sappho products are. Check it out here.

Sappho New Paradigm Complexion Collection Limited Edition Makeup Discovery Beauty Heroes Vegan Mascara Plastic Wand
Vegan Mascara
"No lash will be left behind with this paradigm-shifting and smudge-free mascara, 100% vegan and formulated with a nourishing fruit wax base of Bayberry, sustainably harvested palm (Carnauba) and Candelilla." Mascara is a bit of a tricky one because what may work for some, may not work for others. This Vegan Mascara has a plastic wand, which is not something I'm used to and has more of a dry consistency, especially if you for example compare it with Inika's Long Lash Mascara*. To me this mascara works better in theory than it does in reality. Since it does have that kind of a brush it looks like it would coat every single lash but if you want that you have to apply a few layers. I'm used to that since I prefer more layers (three are usually the way to go). This mascara takes a bit of time to fully dry on the lashes so sneezing is not recommended (that just happened yesterday and it wasn't pretty haha). I like to apply one coat and then wait a little for the next one. I find it works best that way so it has a bit of time to dry and set. I find it more lengthening that volumizing. It gives nice lashes but not amazing lashes. Some days it looks better than others. This mascara can also smudge under my eyes. It is nice and I will continue wearing it but I think I will rather use it in combination with another mascara. Check it out here.

In the Complexion Collection (shade Light) are also three deluxe samples of Sappho's Essential Foundation: Leisha, Rachel and Lisa. Even though I've been very intrigued by this foundation I haven't actually tried it yet. I think that Lisa will suit me best. Check out the Essential Foundation here.

Two Soaps from Odylique & Two Lip Products from Ere Perez

julij 18, 2018

As you may know already, every month me and some other lovely bloggers get a special blogger code from Love Lula which we can use to order products we wish to try out. For the month of July I went with two bar soaps and two lipsticks, and I'm here to share my haul/first impression with you. There are three more products at the end of this post so make sure to scroll down to seem them all.
July 2018 Love Lula Ere Perez Lip Products, Odylique solid bar soap. Vegan
Odylique Lavender Cleansing Bar. Vegan, Palm oil free, Organic, Natural, Use Less Plastic. Love Lula.
Odylique Honey & Oat Cleansing Bar. Love Lula. Use Less Plastic, No Palm Oil, Vegan.
Not because July is also know as "Plastic Free July" but because I love bar soaps and products that contain the least amount of plastic packaging, I picked up two soaps or Cleansing Bars from a UK brand Odylique. Odylique is a well known brand among UK green beauty bloggers and is one I have not experienced much. The two soap bars I chose are Lavender and Honey & Oat Cleansing Bars. Both are 100% natural and almost 100% organic, approved by Soil Association, vegan and without any palm oil. YAS! I avoid palm oil and palm oil derivates as much as I can, in beauty, food and everything else in my life. Why? Because the industry of palm oil, which is btw in everything!!, is causing a major deforestation, habitat degradation, animal cruelty and so on. It's horrible and it makes me so please to hear a person in a store checking ingredients in a food product and saying "eww there's palm oil in this!". Be one of them us and #SayNoToPalmOil. Okay so the Lavender Cleansing Bar* has a gorgeous scent of Lavender and it just looks so beautiful, doesn't it? It contains 4 ingredients: Saponified Olive & Coconut Oil, Lavender Essential Oil and Alkanet Root, which is usually used as a coloring agent. Honey & Oat Cleansing Bar* also contains 4 ingredients: Saponified Olive & Coconut Oils, Oats and Honey. I'm obsessed with oats and honey, they work wonders on my skin and I'm intrigued by this bar to not only use it on my body but also on my face. Not that I really need a new face cleanser haha. I'm hoping these two are not drying and that they lather nicely. If I end up loving them, I will make sure you know. Check out Odylique products here.
Ere Perez Olive Oil Lipstick in the shade Birthday. Love Lula. Summer Coral Colour
Ere Perez Olive Oil Lipstick in the shade Birthday
Next are two lip products from Ere Perez. I fell madly in love with their Rice Powder Bronzer in Tulum* (see swatches here and my review here) so I just had to get a few more products from them. First product from Ere Perez is one from their newer lipstick line: Olive Oil Lipstick in the shade Birthday*. This product is also vegan and cruelty free. Birthday is described as an everyday pink coral and it's so pretty. A light-weight, full coverage olive oil lipstick that glides on lips to offer an elegant long-lasting satin finish. Birthday is that perfect coral shade for summer. It's vibrant, has a creamy texture and feels so lovely on the lips. I like. I have yet to wear it for more than an hour and see how long lasting it is. Let me just say again, that it's a very pretty lipstick colour and I wish I had it with me on our vacation. I guess I just need to go to another vacay haha. You can get the lipstick here.
Ere Perez Olive Oil Lipstick in the shade Birthday. Love Lula. Summer Coral. Swatch
Ere Perez Beetroot Cheek and Lip Tint Joy, Olive Oil Lipstick Birthday. Swatches.
Ere Perez Beetroot Cheek and Lip Tint Joy. Love Lula Ere Perez Beetroot Cheek and Lip Tint Joy. Love Lula
Second Ere Perez product I wanted to try for a while but when I remembered I should order it, it was always out of stock is the Beetroot Cheek & Lip Tint*, in the shade Joy. Described as a tint but at first I was like hey it's looks like a matte lipstick. Joy is a very pigmented, true red shade and the first application got me like woow, is this real life? Once applied on the lips, it dries quite quickly to a matte/tint finish. You can really build it up, like full on or make it a bit more daytime-wearable. It can also be applied on the cheeks, which I haven't tried and honestly I'm a just slightly worried it would be a bit too much full on red. Will that kind of a blush even suit me? Hmm. Oh and just so you know, Joy is vegan - doesn't contain Carmine (made from insects) and I'm like if this product can be so freaking vibrant and rich, why even use carmine to get a red colour? You can get Beetroot Cheek & Lip Tint here.

You can see swatches of me wearing them in my latest stories on Instagram, which I also saved in my story highlights "makeup". After about an hour Joy started to disappear unevenly of my lips and I honestly don't like that very much. Will have to wear it more often to really make up my mind.
Ere Perez Beetroot Cheek and Lip Tint in the shade Joy. Love Lula. Swatch
Walden Natural Perfume See the Moonlight Perfume Oil Roll On. Love Lula
In my Love Lula order was also Walden Perfume Oil in the scent See the Moonlight*. I love the roll on application, it's perfect to carry around in my bag. See the Moonlight's scent reminds me of something but for the life of me I can't figure it out. It is described as "an intoxicating chypre fragrance that opens with fresh Bergamot followed by a heart of Jasmine and hints of Rose. The finish is luxurious Sandalwood (contains Santalum Album Oil which is a threatened plant due to over-exploitation) and exotic Ambrette Seed." It's not really a floral scent but more woody, rich and the word sophisticated also comes to mind. I do prefer more floral scent so if that is what you like as well, then I recommend Two Eternities (review here). You can get See the Moonlight Perfume Oil here.
Galinée Body Milk, Face Mask and scrub. Love Lula
There were two more products in the package which I was very surprised about. At Love Lula they kindly included two products from Gallinée. I have never tried or heard about this brand but it is made in France. I got their La Culture Body Milk* and Face Mask & Scrub*. I'm very grateful for these two products but unfortunately they don't align with my philosophy so I will gift them to my friend. I wish there were organic ingredients in the products, that they would be more "green & clean" and free of palm oil derivates. As you know I also tend to stay away from as much plastic packaging as possible.

I hope you enjoyed reading about these new products I got from Love Lula. Have you tried any of them?

Have a great week!

With love,

Jana xx

Ready to ILLUMINATE with the July Art of Organics Box?

julij 15, 2018

After a somewhat negative review of the July Beauty Heroes box (see here) I'm back at my usual positive reviews, this time with the July Art of Organics box, which is one of my faves. Why? Well because it contains a Leahlani product! I'm sure you all know by now how I feel about Leahlani products, but if you don't, they are bloody amazing!! And the second product in the box is beautiful too.

July Clean Beauty Box* with the theme ILLUMINATE contains Leahlani Skincare Aloha Ambrosia Morning Moisture Elixir and Au Naturale Pure Powder Highlighter in Begonia. Check it out here.

Leahlani Skincare Aloha Ambrosia Morning Moisture Elixir Art of Organics July 2018 Clean Beauty Box
Aloha Ambrosia Morning Moisture Elixir is the only elixir I've tried from Leahlani and it is so gorgeous! I already used a whole bottle of it and I loved it so much (read my review here). Aloha Ambrosia is an exotic superfood feast for your skin and I completely agree with that. Formulated with youth-enhancing antioxidants and vitamins derived from Mangosteen, Goji Berry, Guava, Passion Fruit, Kiwi, Acerola Cherry. These lovely ingredients are blended in a mix of Olive Squalane (which is very hydrating), Sunflower & Jojoba Oils. Aloha Ambrosia is lightweight, gives my skin that beautiful radiant look, it gives an aloha glow. It gives a massive punch of moisture and makes my skin plump and soft. The oil is also balancing and it really is so stunning. AND it smells gorgeous, like every other Leahlani product does! It has a sweet floral scent and smells mainly of Jasmine, but it's not really your typical jasmine scent. It's so darn beautiful! Aloha Ambrosia is the perfect morning treat, for your skin and for your senses. I think it would work for all skin types. You can check it out here.
Au Naturale Pure Powder Highlighter Begonia Art of Organics July 2018 Clean Beauty Box
Au Naturale Pure Powder Highlighter Begonia Art of Organics July 2018 Clean Beauty Box
Au Naturale Pure Powder Highlighter in Begonia is a very pigmented (which isn't really shown on the photos), gold highlighter with a touch of pink that gives a sun-kissed, bronzed look to the skin. It can be used both dry or mixed with Aloha Ambrosia or some other oil. Ok so far I only used Begonia dry and I applied it on my cheekbones, as a highlighter. I saved my first impression in my highlights "makeup" (on my Instagram) and for me, the look of it was a bit too much. I really do prefer a more natural look and I love a highlighter that looks radiant on my skin, like it's just a part of my skin and I prefer if it's not very obvious that I'm wearing a highlighter. So I tried it as an eyeshadow instead and it is absolutely gorgeous! First I applied it with a dry brush and then also with a wet brush and it is oh so very pretty. Very! I have yet to try it out mixed with Aloha Ambrosia and I was thinking that should be a gorgeous primer all over my face. I will update you on my Instagram when I try that. Oh and don't be scared of the packaging. You simply spray some product on the back of your hand or directly onto a brush and simply apply where you wish. All in all, Begonia is beautiful and with a colour like this you can always find a way to incorporate it into your beauty routine. Check it out here.

July Art of Organics box is so lovely and the two products perfectly match the Illuminate theme of it. I also have to say that the print of this box is so pretty! You know that I love nature. It was created by Juliet Meeks, an artist and surface designer based in New Orleans, LA. You can follow her on Instagram at @julietmeeksdesign if you wish.

My Thoughts on the July Beauty Heroes box

julij 11, 2018

Hello loves! Hope you're all doing well! We came back from our vacations (you can see a few pics on my Instagram here) and it's a bit of a shock coming home from hot, summer weather to this rain we have today. Nope, I don't like it. I could say it was the rain that inspired today's post, which isn't the most positive but it was actually Danielle from the CrueltyFreeVeganBeauty. I watched her review of the July Beauty Discovery (see her video here) which I wasn't planning on reviewing, but I actually do have some thoughts on it that I want to share.

The July Beauty Heroes Beauty Discovery features True Botanicals and three of their products: Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner, and Nourishing Body Wash. See it here.
True Botanicals July 2018 Beauty Heroes Beauty Discovery
I had the pleasure of trying out two True Botanicals products two years ago, when I first started working with Jeannie and Beauty Heroes. I liked the products and I always saw very positive reviews of their products. They sound very effective and they also look beautiful. But if you don't know, last year True Botanicals partnered with Unilever, meaning that Unilever Ventures has a minority investment in True Botanicals (see other brands here). Unilever Ventures invests in entrepreneurs who think big and build world-beaters in Consumer and Enterprise Technology and they are a part of Unilever, which produces and supplies fast moving consumer goods in food, and home and personal care product categories worldwide. Unilever owns over 400 brands, brands like Dove, Rexona, Ben&Jerry's and many, many more. For example they also acquired Schmidts Naturals and Pukka Herbs, which I no longer buy or support. Why? Simply because their parent company, Unilever isn't completely and 100% cruelty free. Some of the brands they own are sold in mainland China and in order to be sold there, the products need to be tested on animals. And even though a brand under Unilever or with a minority investment in a brand (like True Botanicals or Ren) doesn't test on animals or even is even Leaping Bunny Certified or Peta Approved, personally I don't support it and don't want to buy from them. The way I see it is if I spend my money on such a brand I also end up giving a percentage of my money to Unilever. Before being a green, natural and organic beauty blogger I was first a cruelty free blogger, meaning I didn't support brands that test their ingredients or products on animals, without any affiliation with brands that do test on animals. I still am a cruelty free blogger and to the best of my knowledge I only talk about brands that are cruelty free. It's a personal choice and the word "cruelty-free" has a different meaning to different people but this is how I see it. So yeah that is the main reason I don't use True Botanicals products.

I did talk to Jeannie about it and she reassured me that True Botanicals remains true to their values and that they don't test on animals, not their products or ingredients. Plus that other brands also have minority investors, and we don't know any of them. But the thing is that I know that TB partnered with Unilever Ventures and that put a massive damper on the brand for me. The thing is that there is soooo many amazing and wonderful brands out there that don't have any affiliation with Unilever and if I banish a brand from my life that was acquired by Unilever (Schmidts Naturals) then I would feel like a hypocrite not to also banish a brand with "just" a minority investment from them. That is how I feel but I know that not everyone shares the same opinion. That is fine and I also have to say that I respect Jeannie for her decision and the way she responded to my message about it.

So yeah this is not a negative review of the products, because I haven't tried them but then I do wish I would, because I hear they're lovely. At the end of the day I really wish True Botanicals would choose a different investor, someone who isn't linked to animal testing. If you didn't know about this and if you now feel bad about using their products, I would still use them or gift them to a friend and then simply don't repurchase. Stay true to yourself and do what makes you proud.
Innersense Organic Beauty Travel Collection Limited Edition Beauty Heroes Box
Since the two products in the July Beauty Discovery are shampoo and conditioner, let me share with you another Beauty Heroes box, the Organic Beauty Travel Collection featuring the beautiful Innersense Organic Beauty. You get a collection of 8 travel sized products, with an option of choosing between two different types of shampoo & conditioner. See here. I've tried a few products from them in their bigger sizes before and I really liked them. I opted to skip this LE box but it does look like a very lovely travel set and if you wanted to try Innersense Organic Beauty, then this is the box for you.

And since I got a lot of questions and comments on my recent Instagram story about my current shower shelfie (saved in highlights #uselessplastic, find it here) let me just quickly mention that I've been loving the combination of Funky Soap London Lavender & Rosemary shampoo bar and Natural Wisdom Spa Shampoo & Conditioner Bar. I love that there isn't any plastic packaging and that they work so well! Will write a full review in a few weeks and tell you more about them.

Have any thoughts or questions you would like to share with me?

Have a great Wednesday!

With love,

Jana xx
