Lovin' on Serums

junij 04, 2018

The last couple of months I've been very interested in facial serums. I don't mean oil serums, which I still love dearly, but in those "true" serums that are lightweight, quickly absorbing, with high concentrations of active ingredients and that are usually used after toning and before the application of an oil/moisturizer. Mainly thanks to my beloved subscription boxes I currently have a selection of five serums and I really do like them all a lot. Each of them is unique in its own way and I will try to really showcase those difference.
Natural and Organic Serums. Live Botanical, de Mamiel, Twelve Beauty, Moss Skincare, Dafna's Personal Skincare

Live Botanical AER Aloe + Green Tea Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Art of Organics
Let's start with Live Botanical AER Hyaluronic Acid Serum*. This serum was in the April Art of Organics Clean Beauty Box, alongside with Skin Dew Coconut Water Cream by One Love Organics. Read my review here. I love both products so much! This box was definitely my favourite Art of Organics box. Both products work amazingly well on my combination skin and my skin looked the best in those weeks when I was using them religiously. AER serum is very lightweight and runny. It is clear and doesn't really have a scent. What I love about it is that it's so fuss free and simple, containing only four ingredients - Aloe Vera Juice, Green Tea, Sodium Hyaluronate and Lactobacillus Ferment. I mean I like both: products that are packed full with many gorgeous ingredients or simple, less than 5 ingredients products. As long as they are effective, I get along with them. I find it very satisfying when a product doesn't contain a lot and it's still so good. That is precisely what AER is. Simple yet so good and effective. It's hydrating and at the same time also plumping and I really couldn't believe how this water-like serum could give my skin so much hydration. This serum is also free of any essential oils and is therefore just perfect for very sensitive and reactive skin. This is the serum you can't go wrong with, no matter what your skin type is. I would also recommend it for sensitive, reactive skin and acne-prone, oily, combination skin. It's the most affordable of the five serums I'm going to mention here, and the design is speaking to me so much. Love ferns! Unfortunately Live Botanical isn't available in Europe (yet - fingers crossed!) but if you're an Art of Organics member you can get it with your 15% discount - at the moment it is not available but I'm sure it will be soon. And if your country isn't on the shipping list, do write them an email if they would ship to your country. You can also order straight from their website here.
de Mamiel Intense Nurture Antioxidant Elixir Serum. Beauty Heroes.
Another serum I got in an April box is the de Mamiel Intense Nurture Antioxidant Elixir*. This gorgeousness was in the April Beauty Heroes box and oh my word this one is amazing. This serum contains a bunch of ingredients, it's full of antioxidants (like full full) and is especially formulated to combat pollution, environmental and emotional stress. De Mamiel is a very special brand from the UK and I can't help but to fall in love with each and every product I try from them. The serum has a subtle floral scent, milky white colour and thicker consistency than these other serums. It almost seems a bit goopy, but I mean that in the best way possible. It's soothing on the skin and it layers really beautifully. I will say that it is not the most hydrating but it pairs so perfectly with the AER serum. I think it would be beneficial to all skin types and especially those who live in cities where there is lots of pollution. If you want a good boost of antioxidants for your skin then this is the one for you. My skin is fairly sensitive and I didn't experience any problems with it, on the contrary it calmed my skin. If you have very sensitive skin do still check the ingredients and make sure your skin isn't reactive to the essential oils that are in this product. If you live in Europe you can get it straight from their website here and in the States get it at the Beauty Heroes' Beauty Store where members have 15% off. Check it out here. Twelve Beauty Ideal Brightening Corrective Serum. Boxwalla Beauty Box.
Twelve Beauty Ideal Brightening Corrective Serum* is another serum that was in an April box, this time it was the April Boxwalla Beauty Box. Twelve Beauty is a Spanish brand and the founder and master formulator Pedro doesn't joke around. Not that other formulators do haha. This serum has a milky white colour and a subtle scent. This serum is very hydrating, to the point where my skin was over-hydrated and I experienced some bumps on the skin. So you definitely don't need to layer other products with this one! I was very much looking forward to trying out this serum because it sounds ideal for my biggest skin concern - hyperpigmentation. I pretty much always have some redness in my skin, some scaring (post-acne redness) and even though I use sunscreen on a daily I'm sure there is still some sun damage so bring on all the brightening powers. It is said that the results can be seen in 10-14 days but my skin needed a bit longer to really show that the serum is brightening and corrective. I think if it wasn't for the layering with other products I would see the results sooner. Know that this is not a one-time miracle worker, at least it wasn't for me. Regular use and applying it twice a day does the job. Hyperpigmentation is something that needs to be addressed every day if you want to get rid of it and having a lightweight yet very hydrating serum that has brightening properties is the way to go. I think that everyone can use this serum, even those with sensitive skin. If you have combination and oily skin types I would only apply a toner and one to two pumps of the serum. Done. That's in the evening and for the morning routine I love mixing it with Farizad's Veil sunscreen from Earthwise Beauty. That's a powder sunscreen so you get the sun protective benefits and no additional oils or moisture. Read more about about it here. You can get it here.
Moss Skincare Vitaminc C Perfecting Treatment Intensif. Boxwalla Beauty Box.
Next is MOSS Illumina Vitamin C Perfecting Treatment Intensif*. This serum is in the June Boxwalla Beauty Box which is still available to purchase! See here. Illumina is a serum but it's more of a treatment because I don't use it every day, and most definitely not twice a day. If you check out the description of this serum, it pretty much does it all (or at least everything I want in a product): "This Vitamin C plus exfoliating serum offers revitalized cellular renewal. It decongests acne-prone skins and smooths wrinkles and discoloration for mature skins." Well do sign me up! Ever heard of retinols? Well this serum is a safe retinol alternative, without causing any redness, dryness or harshness to the skin. Illumina is a vitamin C and exfoliating serum. More on the ingredients in my review here. This product does everything it is stated on the bottle and my mind is just like blown away. This is definitely not your standard serum! I apply it every three days or so and Illumina visibly improves appearance of my skin overnight. Skin is brighter, texture of the skin is more even and refined, hyperpigmentation and inflammation are both reduced. I'm not joking around when I say that this serum is magical. Pure magic. I would say that everyone can use it but be careful if you have sensitive skin and perhaps mix it with something like AER serum from Live Botanical to water it down a bit. This serum isn't affordable so I highly recommend getting it in the June Boxwalla Beauty Box here (available until June 5th). I'm not sure where it is available in Europe but I did find this UK store called Alyaka that carries a few products from Moss, sadly not Illumina (see here). I also recommend buying from The Green Jungle Beauty Shop here, where you can use my code Jana for 10% off your order (code is not affiliated).
Dafna's Personal Skincare Serum Anti-aging & Glow
The last serum is one I got just recently, Dafna's Personal Skincare Serum Anti Aging & Glow*. I already shared my first impression with this serum in my previous post here so I don't want to go into too much details. As the name suggest this serum contains ingredients that are rich in antioxidants and they say that the "Serum offers one of the most advanced solutions to combat skin aging processes". Like all other serums mentioned here, this one is also lightweight, it's quite hydrating and I'm looking forward to see how it works in the long run. So far I've been enjoying it. It didn't break me out or caused redness which is great. "With our Serum you will see and feel how your skin texture changes, fine lines are smoothed, and your skin is firmer and radiant." - bring it on! I got it from Love Lula here (free shipping worldwide).

Have you tried any of these serums? Do you even use serums?

Lots of love to you all,

Jana xx
