A Quick Introduction to September's Beauty Heroes Beauty Discovery

September 01, 2017

Oh my goodness where has the time gone, it's already the first of September! Whaat?! It's such a bittersweet month for me. Summer is coming to an end and autumn winter is coming. Get it? ;) Well it was even more bitter when I was in school. But for the last few years September has been sunny and warm, even a hot month (not today tho) so I will not complain. One other thing I will not complain about is the brand new Beauty Heroes Box featuring Skin Owl. The brand makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside because it was featured in my first ever Beauty Heroes box that I so kindly received from the beautiful Jeannie. You can check it out here + there is a lot of information about Beauty Heroes if you wish to learn more about them.
Skin Owl was founded by Annie Tevelin, who struggled with acne and skin imbalances until a vacation in Vietnam led her to discover the remarkable benefits of mangosteen fruit. That was the hero ingredient of the Mangosteen Beauty Drops pm, that was in the March 2016 BH box. That oil smelled sooo delicious! Sweet and fruity and just gorgeous. Some described the scent as "sweet candy" and "face candy", and I couldn't agree more. BUT. Last year Annie found out that the specific strain of mangosteen she had been sourcing was becoming unsustainable to her Southeast Asian partners. Rather then discontinuing the product she went on a mission for an ingredient that would met the high standard of her prized mangosteen and replace it. And she found it. She discovered the tiny and mighty purple maqui berry which is now the new star ingredient in the Maqui Berry Beauty Drops pm*. Maqui Berry is said to have calming, clearing, protecting and brightening benefits. It is formulated in the base of Baobab Oil, with addition of proprietary blend of Tangerine and Vanilla Essential Oils. This one has a gorgeous scent as well! The oil promises clearer, balanced and healthy skin, visible improvements in evenness in tone and overnight improvement in smoothness and softness. I've only been using it once a day for about a week so I can't say much other that in does make my skin smooth and soft. It doesn't clog my pores but makes my skin healthy looking and lovely. Hoping for all those other things as well. If it will meet my expectations, I will definitely write an update. You can read more about this product here.

Since Annie was really impressed with the results of Maqui Berry she was inspired to create another product with it and that is the Sidekick of the Septemeber Beauty Heroes Box, the Skin Owl's Beauty Whip*. A balancing & buttery face mask that you can use as an overnight treatment or primer as well. It promises a boost of moisture, even texture and tone, and a visibly brighter complexion. I have to use it a few more times before I share with you my thoughts but it kinda looks like it really delivers all that. It feels lovely on the skin and every time I used it, and then followed with the oil, my skin tone always looked more even in the morning. I'm bit wary of the Organic Alcohol that it contains and I have yet to try it as an overnight treatment or a primer. It also contains some emulsifying waxes (which can be ethoxylated) but as verified directly from SkinOwl’s lab, this particular emulsifier is not ethoxylated. Oh and this product separates so you have to shake it up to mix all the ingredients back together. More about the product here.

The Septemeber's Beauty Heroes Beauty Discovery ft. Skin Owl is valued at $113 but you can get both of these products for less than $40. This Beauty Heroes box will be available till the 20th of September. You can get it here.

I would like to end this post by sharing with you the video that Jeannie and Annie did about the change from Mangosteen to Maqui Berry. It's such a lovely video and it will really gets you excited about these two Skin Owl products. Check it our here.

With love,

Jana xx
