Odacité Mint + Green Tea Hydra-Purifying Treatment Mist

februar 26, 2017

Toners. Do you use them? I always love spritzing my face with a good toner but I do have to say that they are a tough product to judge. In the last few months I've tried a few toners containing Aloe Vera Juice and I have to say they have been really lovely to my skin. There were these two beautiful toners I received in Beauty Heroes boxes, the Kari Gran Hydrating Tonic* (mentioned in this post) and the Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator* (mention in this post), both gorgeous. I also used up the Cistus and Moonlight Face Mist* from Earthwise Beauty, and even though it was hydrating I wasn't really a fan of its scent. Another aloe juice based toner I enjoyed is one of the newly-packaged Odacité toners, the Mint + Green Tea Hydra-Purifying Treatment Mist*. I had a chance to choose from their three facial mists and they all sound lovely, but I wanted one with the least ingredients so the mint it is.
The Mint + Green Tea mist contains only 5 ingredients and they are all very straightforward - Aloe Leaf Juice, Peppermint, Willow Bark and Green Tea Extracts, and Vegetable Glycerin. All but the glycerin are organic. The toner is 100% natural, vegan and gmo free. The toner is naturally rich in salicylic acid, Willow Bark helps to rapidly clear pimples and deeply purify pores. Peppermint is a powerful ally that helps to remove excess oil and reduce dullness. Aloe Vera prevents skin from over drying while Green Tea extract acts as a powerful antioxidant to neutralize free radical damage. As you can see the toner is meant to be especially beneficial and good for oily and combinations skin. It is said that the toner quickly and effectively reduces the appearance of acne & breakouts, and restore a fresh, clear complexion. As I've said, toners and mists are hard products to judge but I have to say that I did see positive results on my skin. My complexion didn't dramatically change but the use of this toner did help to keep my skin looking fresh and nice. You know when I was using this toner my skin didn't become as oily through the day as it did before, which was happening quite a lot in the last few months. I don't know if it was like that only because of this toner but it was a very nice thing indeed.
I would recommend it to those with oily and acne-prone skin, I think you'd really like it. It's a lovely mist you can use as the first step in your skincare routine (after you wash your face), you can mist your face with it after you apply your makeup or just use it whatever you feel like it. It smells like mint - so very refreshing and has a great spray nozzle applicator. I also adore the miron glass bottles. You can get this Odacité mist here.

Which facial mist have you been enjoying lately?

Lots of love,

Jana xx

Natural & Vegan Products in my Shower

februar 13, 2017

Want to know which products I'm currently using in my shower? Then you came to the right place. I've been using some new goodies so I decided to share a little bit about them.
First I would like to show you a shower gel I've been using almost every day, the Botanical Bodywash in Rose & Neroli by the UK brand Greenfrog Botanic*. This body wash is quite unique since it's made from organic Soapberries, grown sustainably in the mighty Himalayan Mountains of the East, where for centuries they have been used for washing the body. These magical berries, used in Ayurveda medicine to treat soft, sensitive and dry skin, leave your body superbly clean and really respect the PH of your skin. No palm oil, sulphates and parabens, made with plant based ingredients because as they say "in a hot steaming shower, chemicals are absorbed through open skin pores and in breathed into the lungs" so nasties aren't welcomed there. This body wash has a strong scent, mostly of Neroli and is a bit too strong in my opinion. Luckily I don't hate it but I can say it's not my fave. I love that it's made from soapberries and I don't know if this is usually the case but the product doesn't lather much, if any at all. It's different than your standard conventional body wash but you do get used to it. No foam but that doesn't mean anything because the body wash cleanses my skin perfectly.

Sometimes I mix it up a little and use my Kahina Rose Beldi Soap* which I've received in a Beauty Heroes Box. I've mentioned it in this post. I'm loving it! Made with only two ingredients, saponified Olive Oil and Rose Flower Oil, this soap is as pure as can be. Just the other day I used it with the accompanying Kessa Mitt* and oh man, my skin was so smooth and soft. It removed all the dead skin cells and if you haven't tried this duo you really should. The soap is a bit more expensive but surely the kessa mitt can be used with some other body wash, so if not both, go at least for the kessa mitt. If you are a Beauty Heroes member you can buy it in their Beauty Store, using 15% discount.

Onto haircare. Ever since I got my new shampoo and conditioner from the lovely UK shop LoveLula, I've been using them regularly and I already can tell you a little bit about them. I wanted to get a full size bottle of Rahua Voluminous Shampoo* ever since I tried a sample of it. The Voluminous Shampoo’s gentle formula provides the very finest nature has to offer, creating beautiful volume and bounce. I will tell you more about the brand and the ingredients in a full review, but I want to keep this short and sweet. The shampoo is formulated with some beautiful plant derived ingredients sustainably sourced from the Amazon rainforest. It's 100% natural and vegan, no synthetics and sulphates. It has a herbal scent of Lavender and Eucalyptus. It's a nice and non-invasive scent. The shampoo lathers beautifully and provides great foam (sulphates really aren't necessary for products to foam). It washes all the dirt and oil from my hair and leaves them perfectly clean and fresh. It's one of the most beautiful shampoos I've tried but the only thing is that I don't get that much volume or bouncy hair. Which is a shame since they are marketing it as such, but then it does leave my hair very soft which I adore so it's good with me.

The matching Voluminous Conditioner* has the same herbal scent and is also 100% natural & vegan. The conditioner is very nourishing and makes my hair super soft and smooth. After leaving it on for a few minutes my hair feel very silky and beautiful. The only thing that comes with that silkiness is that I've been noticing some problems with static hair but I'm also half blaming my winter sweater and scarves. All in all I'm very pleased with both Rahua products and I recommend them.

Wishing you a beatufiul week and have a happy Valentine's Day!

With love,

Jana xx

Josh Rosebrook Cacao Antioxidant Mask

februar 08, 2017

I’m very excited for today's post. It was created in collaboration with my amazing and beautiful friend Nicole, a fellow beauty blogger and an author of OrgaNic Obsessions. Do you follow her and read her blog? Her writing is very thoughtful and witty, and I enjoy it very much. You should definitely follow her on Bloglovin and also on Instagram. That way you’ll be all up to date with her writings and her daily musings. I have so much love for her and I’m sure you will fall in love with her too. So, what kind of collaboration did we come up with? We were talking about this cacao face mask (a couple of times!) and decided it would be fun to share our experiences and feelings and write a joint review. So today you will not only get my thoughts on the product but you will be also to read what Nic has to say about it.
The mask we were talking about was the Hero of November’s Beauty Heroes box, the Josh Rosebrook Cacao Antioxidant Mask*. Spoiler alert, I love it!! The founder Josh is well known in the green beauty community and I’ve only heard great things about him. He really knows a lot, like a whole lot, and he is super friendly and helpful. Josh works with a team of phyto-chemists and herbalists who understand the power of plants to return the body to a balanced and optimal state. Josh Rosebrook brings a refreshing, holistic approach to skin and hair care. Based on the products I’ve tried from his line I have to say I’m very impressed.

The Cacao Antioxidant Face Mask is hands down one of the best face masks I have had a pleasure to try. And I have tried quite a few. The mask is Josh’s original Hero product, his first product he formulated to address his own skin concerns. Using flavonoid-rich Cacao as its base, Josh consciously selected his favourite skin-loving whole plant materials for his personal recipe. And if you still think chocolate is bad for the skin, think again! The ingredient list makes my heart sing, there are some pretty amazing ingredients hidden in this gem. I will mention only a few and start with the wonderful Cacao. I’ve been a fan of it all along. Cacao is rich in antioxidants, it is firming and stimulating. I’ve tried a few cacao based face mask, my own DIY mask including, and I love each and every one. This one is a front runner for sure. The mask contains some plant oils like Almond, Marula, Baobab, Grape Seed Oils and a whole bunch of amazing herbs, spices and berries. I will of course firstly mention one of my biggest, if not the biggest love, the magnificent Turmeric. It’s very brightening and anti-inflammatory, if you haven’t gotten around to incorporating it into your daily routine, then I suggest you do it quickly. Turmeric lattes are very popular at the moment and I sure can understand why. In the mask are also Calendula, Ginger, Cinnamon, Marshmallow, Licorice and Goji Berry. Do check out the whole ingredient list here, it is a thing of beauty.
Josh’s Cacao Antioxidant Mask is very decadent and very indulgent. The mask has a thick, rich consistency and a rich dark colour. I love the scent of it but can someone else please explain it to me? It contains essential oils of Orange, Lavender, Rosemary and Calendula but I can’t pin point the scent. It’s divine! The mask is all-in-one and one for all, concentrated with nutrients and phytochemicals to detoxify, rejuvenate and hydrate, working holistically on young and mature skin, men and women, and everyone in between. The mask dries on the skin and even though it’s tightening, it doesn’t dry out my skin. Here I have to say that I recommend applying the mask in steps. Start applying it on one cheek, then scoop out some more and apply on the other cheek, and so on. The mask dries quickly so apply it evenly and then leave it at that because if you go over it, the mask will stick to your fingers and roll off your skin. Yes, I have a real knack for describing things haha. I use about a teaspoon of the mask and leave it on for about an hour. I also love applying it before a bath and then wash it off there, because it can be just a tiny bit messy.

After washing it off my skin feels very soft, smooth and is visibly brighter. It’s even more healthy-looking and lovely the next morning. I’ve noticed it minimizes my pores and reduces spots. It does say it is detoxifying and you better believe that it is! My skin is most definitely revived after I use it and I really am most impressed with this product. It’s also said that it increases circulation and skin cell turnover, I don’t know about that but the mask really delivers. I highly recommend it. LOVE.
Now for the big question, does Nicole agree with me?? Here is what she has to say about the mask.

There’s no denying the love I have for face masks, especially the ones that make a weekly appearance which despite owning more than a couple, are actually few and far between. (Part of that can be explained by my Cappie nature and my love for consistency in skincare). Ever since receiving Josh Rosebrook’s Cacao Antioxidant Mask in November’s Beauty Heroes box (or CAM as I like to call it, hey also the name of a very dear friend!) it has been making the weekly rounds in my masking sessions and I just could not be more in love with the results I consistently get.

We are all pretty much aware of the multiple skincare benefits of cacao (high in antioxidants & omega 6 fatty acids, the latter aiding in cellular health along with it boosting hydration, skin density and blood flow) and there is a lot of chocolate goodness in this mask, but I also wanted to take a closer look at the other players in the line up since it’s the parts that make up the beautiful whole of CAM. Cacao alone would surely not give the same results and this is where Josh’s excellent formulation knowledge and skills come into play, marrying specific ingredients that enhance the overall synergy of a product.

The INCI of CAM is somewhat long but don’t let that frighten you – it’s not to be compared to the laundry list of ingredients that are present in conventional products, more than half of which are fairly unpronounceable.  CAM is beautifully created with a plethora of skin-loving beneficial components and I chose to take a closer look at a couple that are not so commonly found or used yet by other brands, at least not to my knowledge.

Ashwagandha is one such ingredient. A component central to Ayurveda, it is a woody shrub said to brighten, plump, firm and calm your skin due to high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory levels.  It also aids in slowing down the signs of aging since it contains steroidal compounds stimulating collagen production, as well as being a great acne fighter as the compound withanolides inhibit a bacteria that can cause inflammation.  This might also be why I reach for CAM when my skin is feeling out of sorts and in need of a circulatory boost.

Ginkgo is another ingredient that is not present in any skincare item I currently own. That doesn’t mean to say that it’s totally new to me as it’s quite often used in Japanese cooking.  Gingko seeds can be found in chawamushi, a delicious amuse-bouche if you will often served at sushi restaurants. The seeds however do not appeal to my palate at all so I usually end up eating everything but the seeds. Presentation being an integral part of Japanese cuisine, gingko leaves are often used to beautify a dish, especially in the autumn.  But I digress – when you use CAM on a regular basis you will find that your skin looks brighter and less prone to redness. This is in part due to the inclusion of gingko, and together with its calming companions calendula and St. Johns Wort, you can imagine the soothing magic they weave together. Having sensitized, easily reactive skin my complexion always looks more radiant after a session with CAM.

When you look over the complete roster that comprises CAM you see that many of the ingredients share similar traits such as being calming, firming, brightening and softening. I do believe the reason why Josh’s mask is so effective is because of this intelligent synergy between all the components he has chosen to use to ensure soft, smooth, radiant skin every time you use it. Josh recommends applying an opaque layer and leaving it to work hard for about 45 minutes. Masking is one of all my all-time favourite self-care rituals so I tend to go over but that only seems to improve the results. As I mentioned at the beginning, Josh’s much loved Cacao Antioxidant Mask has made it on my favourites list and is one I keep coming back to every week. When you start taking masks with you abroad like I recently did on my trip to Hong Kong you know they’ve become pretty indispensable. Many thanks to Beauty Heroes for featuring CAM as one of their Hero Products last year and when Jana and I both were proclaiming how much we’re loving the consistent results that we’re seeing and getting (nearly every time we chatted), we just knew that we had to write a post about it together. So, from Sweden and Slovenia, with love!

As you can see, Nicole is also a fan and I'm most definitely sure she agrees with me saying that Josh is a genius! You can get the mask via Beauty Heroes Beauty Shop where BH subscribers receive 15% off.

Hope you enjoyed this post and have a lovely day!

With love,

Jana & Nic xx

Beauty Heroes x Osmia

februar 05, 2017

Hi beauties! How are you all doing? Today I'm bringing you my review of the February Beauty Heroes Beauty Discovery. The brand featured this month is Osmia, which was was founded four years ago by the stunning Dr. Sarah Villafranco, medical doctor-turned-holistic beauty brand founder. Here she is with our main babe Jeannie and it looks like they were having the most wonderful time. Love. Osmia is created with consciously-sourced plant-based materials, aromatherapeutic essential oils and environmentally-aware packaging. Osmia products are rich in organic and wild-crafted ingredients, and their collection of skin and body products invite a daily ritual of self care.
The new Hero is the Night Body Oil by Osmia* and it is a beaut! This body oil was created to formulate a plant-based sleep prescription that calms body and mind from skin to soul. Based around the Nigh Body Oil, this month’s Beauty Heroes box is all about creating a perfect nightly sleep ritual for you. Sleep is the best medicine, and scent and ritual are the keys to a good night’s rest. You better believe that the oil has a wonderful soothing scent. It’s blended with organic French Lavender, sedating Roman Chamomile and comforting Moroccan Atlas Cedarwood Oil. This aromatherapeutic oil is a concentrated blend of intentionally sourced essential oils and is expertly crafted to cue the biological processes that relax the autonomic nervous system and prepare the body for rest. I adore the scent! Remember in my previous post when I said that the Province Apothecary Beard Oil contains that amazing Lavender essential oils that smells different to any old lavender scent? Well this one also has the same gorgeous scent of lavender. It’s so beautiful, I wish I could explain it to you. Many lavender essential oils smell almost a bit synthetic and un-natural, or maybe it’s just a different species of lavender. I don’t know and I don’t want to graduate in my explanation of Lavender here haha. You would need to smell it to know what I mean but believe me that it’s most wonderful.
The proprietary blend of organic and wild-harvested essential oils and CO2 extracts are infused into a base of skin-strengthening botanical oils that includes organic Hemp, Jojoba, Rosehip, Sea Buckhorn, Kukui and Sweet Almond. Plus some more. The oil also contains steam-fractionated Coconut Oil, an ingredient that isn’t harmful or toxic and has lots of benefits and is widely used, but I would lie if I said I wasn’t just a bit surprised to see it in the oil. You know I’m super into my raw and extra virgin coconut oil (Cocovit is my fave) but after trying out the Night Body Oil I don’t think I’ll be avoiding it anymore in my body and hair oils. I didn’t even planning on mentioning it but since I’m writing about my thoughts and feelings I might as well do. This ingredient is also one of the reasons why the oil is so lightweight and non greasy. I know a lot of people hate the feeling of greasy oil on their skin but with this one you won't have to worry about that. I don't really care if an oil does leave a greasy feeling on the skin but it is very nice to have a product that keeps your skin nourished without any excessive oiliness or stickiness. The oil quickly absorbs into the skin and leaves it soft and smooth. It’s hydrating and has the most wonderful scent which really is perfect for an evening body care routine. I will say that January was a super cold month for us with temperatures going from -10 to -20 degrees Celsius and at that time my skin really needed super rich and deeply nourishing products. The body oil was a good choice but I did notice my skin started to itch through the day. Yes, I was (and still am) slacking on dry body brushing which helps immensily with dry skin. But now that we are back to mild winter, the body oil will be used religiously again. I actually already used half of the bottle! Yes, it is that lovely and oh the scent, the best!
Hero done, let’s move to the February’s Sidekick. Osmia Lip Doctor* is a beautiful lip balm made with only 6 ingredients. Contains Lavender-infuse Olive Oil, Avocado and Argan Oil, Cacao Butter, Candelilla Wax and Beeswax. The balm is rich and very nourishing, and smells like cacao. It’s yummy! The Lip Doctor really is a wonderful treat for them lips and even my boyfriend, who is very picky when it comes to lip balms (or beard oils), loves it.

What can I say, another lovely Beauty Heroes box. It is valued at $76 but you can get it for less than $40 if you subscribe to Beauty Heroes. If you wanna know more about Beauty Heroes subscription box, you can read this post. To sum up, it is one of my absolute favourite beauty subscription box. No doubt!

Much love,

Jana xx
