You know how I feel about multi-purpose products, right? Well, I absolutely love them and today I have just that kind of a product to show you. Let me introduce you to a small Ireland brand called One Therapy. The brand was created by Sinead, a former beauty journalist and PR person. As a product reviewer she was testing dozens of products for her columns each week and the combinations were really starting to take their toll on her skin so she set out to create something for herself that would be packed full of nutrients and work to balance her stressed out complexion. A lot of experimenting and different combinations later, One Therapy was born. After a lot of encouragement from friends, she decided to take the plunge and make things official so she shipped her blend off to a lab and had it bottled.
One Therapy Artisan Elixir* is a unique blend of precious essential oils that nourish the body, illuminate the mind and empower the soul this eco friendly vegan moisturizer works to harmonise, heal and hydrate skin and hair. There, that's all you need to know, really. This daily moisturizer, elixir or oil serum, as I would call it, consists of only four ingredients - four certified food grade organic oils.
Elixir is based on pure Jojoba oil, a liquid wax which supposedly has a texture almost identical to the oil produced by our own skin. Balancing, moisturizing and good for all skin types. Jojoba oil is a base for three beautiful essential oils, which provide the elixir its intoxicating scent.
First one is Ylang Ylang, derived from the flowers of Cananga tree which grows in Indonesia, Malaysia and some other places. It has a very unique and prominent scent, a scent that you can easily sniff out in a product. It is an uplifting scent and an oil that has been used as a skin and hair treatment for centuries. Ylang ylang is one of the best at relaxing the body and mind and is used to relieve stress, depression, anxiety. It is also supposed to help with oil production and is therefore great as a hair care treatment. Cute fact alert - in Indonesia the petals of Ylang Ylang flowers are scattered over the bed of newlywed couples on their wedding night.
Onto the Sandalwood, a very precious, expensive oil and one of the oldest known perfume materials. It has been used in ancient times, probably more than 4.000 years ago - in Egypt they used it in embalming. Sandalwood is a tree indigenous to India. It has a rich, warm, sweet fragrance with delicate wood notes. It is a powerful skin hydrator and is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties. It is considered beneficial for meditation and for calming and focusing the mind. Sandalwood oil is a very popular oil and is used extensively as a harmonizing agent but due to the value of it, the trees are being illegally cut, leading to the waste of this precious resource as trees that are too young are cut, or trees are cut but the roots are left to rot (the roots are the most valuable part of the tree from which to extract the oil). (source) Trees must also grow for at least 30 years to even become suitable for harvesting and therefore we need to look for ways to responsively use it. Sandalwood essential oil in the One Therapy Artisan Elixir is certified Organic by the Soil Association which means you can be sure that it has been produced to the highest ethical and environmental standards. Sustainable and ethical sandalwood for the win.
The last but certainly not least is Frankincense, a resin (dried sap) obtained from trees that are native to Somalia. It is believed that the Babylonians and Assyrians burned them during religious ceremonies and that Egyptians bought entire boatloads of the resins from the Phoenicians, using them in incense, insect repellent, perfume and salves for wounds and sores. They also charred and ground it into a powder to make the heavy kohl eyeliner Egyptian women famously wore. Frankincse has an uplifting and grounding scent, it has a rich aroma and because of it is a popular mediation oil and has been used in religious ceremonies for centuries. I know some ladies are not a fan of it because it reminds them of going to church but I really like the scent. One of the products I love that contains it is the wonderful Indigo Wild Zum Rub Frankincense & Myrrh (affiliate link). I mentioned it in this post. Frankincense is a natural astringent, skin calmer and balancer for both dry and oily skin.
Now that you know a little bit about the ingredients this elixirs contains, let's move on the actual product itself. Like I said, this product is an oil, which I mostly use as a body oil. Sometimes I also use it as a hair treatment and I love it in both ways. It's easily absorbed into the skin and leaves it soft and smooth. Like the majority of natural and green body oils, this one also leaves a feel on the skin. Oily is not the right word, but silky definitely is. The skin is silky to the touch and that feels very nice. Very nice indeed. I like that this product is so versatile, you can use it on your body, hair, even on your face. Perfect for travel, I think. Especially when travelling to sunny, exotic places because the scent of ylang ylang would blend right into. I've been really loving this product and if you're a fan of ylang ylang you would too.
