For The Love of Argan Oil

April 24, 2016

There are numerous sites that describe Argan Oil as a "liquid gold". Argan Oil is a plant oil extracted from the kernels of Argan tree, which is native to Marocco. It is said that the oil has remarkably effective natural healing properties and an unmatched ability to deeply nourish even the driest, most damaged and tired looking complexions of all skin types. Raw argan oil is composed of a high percentage of vitamin E (more than three times as much as olive oil) and 80% fatty acids, including hard to obtain Omega 6 and Omega 9 acids. The antioxidants and fatty acids in argan oil work together to help stop inflammation and to protect and maintain skin elasticity, smoothness and radiance. Phytosterols help strengthen the protective skin barrier and are also antiseptic. Squalene is a lipid that is naturally present in, and extremely compatible with, our own skin, which is why argan oil is so easily absorbed. Our body’s own squalene production declines starting at the age of 20 and replenishing helps skin retain its moisture, as well as supporting cell regeneration and oxygenation. Now that you know a little bit about the wonderful argan oil, I have four argan oil based products to show you so keep on reading.
LIGHWEIGHT
OrgaMor Forever Young Serum*. My latest argan oil serum. This one has an interesting scent. I don't mind the scent of Organic Oregano and Neroli essential oils, but I don't particularly enjoy smelling it either. It's an alright scent and one you get used to. Besides Extra Virgin Organic Argan Oil (the purest argan oil from their own orchards) it contains Sesame Oil and the beautiful Organic Prickly Pear Seed Oil, an ingredient that goes by many names, like Barbary Fig, Desert Fig, Cactus Fig Oil and strangely enough, even Tuna Oil. Well this oil is definitely the only "tuna oil" I'm willing to use. This ingredient comes from cactus. Yes, cactus. The most known brand that is using it is La Bella Figura, which I would say is one of the cult brands in the green beauty world. Prickly Pear Seed Oil is said to be rich in Essential Fatty Acids and Vitamin E, a natural antioxidant that helps protect the skin from free radicals. I've been really enjoying this serum in the morning because it is lightweight and quite fast absorbing. I don't use a lot so it doesn't disturb my foundation and even though it is a 25 ml bottle it will last a long time. Side note: I'm not completely sure but I think this serum has been keeping my neck looking very lovely - like less wrinkles lovely. I was actually really surprised one day when I took a closer look to my neck. Wow. Will continue to use it to see if it really is a youth serum.
On another side note and this is an exciting one. When you order the OrgaMor Forever Young Serum you will also receive their Moroccan Rhassoul Exfoliating Clay Mask (worth $46) for free. Ah-mazing! All you need to do is add both products to your shopping cart and then apply the coupon code "jana". Valid till the 7th of May 2016.

ROSEY
MUN No. 1 Aknari Brightening Youth Serum. I've been most excited when I've received this beautiful oil. It's one of the top most luxurious serums I have had a pleasure to try. Like the OrgaMor serum this one also contains an incredible anti-aging Prickly Pear Seed Oil, one of the most precious oils in the world. The blend of Organic Argan and Organic Prickly Pear Seed Oil is rounded by one other ingredient - the Bulgarian Rose Essential Oil. Serum has a proper rose scent, a strong and a beautiful scent. It's a lovely serum, it's lightweight, perfect for day or night time skincare routine. It makes my skin a bit brighter, softer and smoother.
PURE
MUN Argan Oil*. No fuss, "just plain old" Argan Oil. Pure liquid gold. I haven't really been using it on its own, I always mix it with a bit of MUN's Youth Serum so it will last me a bit longer, but there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't use it on its own. This one is exclusive to their travel set, which you can get in The Green Jungle Beauty Shop, where you can use a coupon code "Jana" to get 10% off your order. I actually don't have much to say about it other than it's a wonderful multi purpose oil. Great for face, hair, nails, for the whole body really.

CALMING
Kahina Giving Beauty Serum**. I already have a review of it here. This oil is a very good all-rounder. It takes care of redness, spots, it calms irritation, reduces inflammation, hyperpigmentation and dryness. It is a gorgeous oil indeed and I love it more than I did when I wrote my review. It's said it also protects skin damage from UV rays and combat flaky skin. Besides the Organic Argan Oil, the serum also contains Organic Coffee Oil, Pomegranate, Sea Buckthorn, Carot Seed and Roman Chamomile Flower Oil, to name a few. It has a beautiful scent, which I find calming and soothing. Yes, I like this one. You can get it at the organic beauty store where you can use coupon code "smallbitsofloveliness-SPRING", which provides USA and Canadian ladies with free shipping (one time use, good through midnight the 30th of June 2016).

Do you love Argan Oil? Which is your favourite argan oil based serum?

Much love to you,

Jana xx

Beauty Heroes. use less. love more.

April 12, 2016

Beauty Heroes. The beauty box to subscribe to. I can easily say this is one of the most talked about beauty subscription box services and I've been really impressed thus far. The selection of products, fast shipping, the passionate beauty behind Beauty Heroes, the lovely Jeannie, the whole experience with Beauty Heroes has been more than great. When Jeannie reached out to me, I was over the moon and so excited to work with her. Like really excited and extremely happy. We had such a nice talk over on Skype and you know what? Jeannie is a sweetheart and so passionate about her work. Love that. We talked about her beautiful subscription box and life in general, so today I'm going to introduce you to Beauty Heroes as much and try not to overwhelm you with all the information.
If you don't know it already, "Beauty Heroes is a non-toxic beauty discovery service that is perfectly curated for your beauty needs". It was founded by Jeannie Jarnot, a longtime spa director and healthy beauty expert, to bring attention to the ingredients in your skincare. In each box you get a carefully selected full-size (not sample!) Hero Product that fits the season and delivers results, rotating between skin, body, sun, hair care and makeup products. You usually also get at least one extra product, and a mini Hero mask. Beauty Heroes selects one clean beauty company each month to bring us the freshest batch of their star performer. They believe that the ingredients in your beauty products should be more than safe; they should be good for you, ethically sourced and completely effective.

Think about this, each month you get a luxury product (plus a sidekick product, because "every hero needs a sidekick") that are worth way more than what you pay. Like way more. A Beauty Heroes membership is $39 a month (plus shipping - to Slovenia is $18.95). A full-size Hero Product (plus surprises) is valued from $60 to more than $100 every month. Oh yeah! You also get additional savings on the per month price if you join for 3-,6- or 12-months. Not only that, Beauty Heroes also has its own shop, The Beauty Store, where as a Beauty Heroes member you automatically receive an exclusive 15% ongoing discount, on all green hero products. Those include brands like Kahina Giving Beauty, Laurel Whole Plant Organics, Josh Rosebrook and more.
If you would like to explore the world of Beauty Heroes and get more information, then visit their website. Just so you know, if you're eyeing luxury and high quality green beauty products then Beauty Heroes is the way to go. I absolutely love that you get a full-size product each month, which is not the case with other beauty boxes. Honestly, I don't really use many samples I receive, but a full-size product I will most certainly try and use. So far I've been so lucky to receive two boxes featuring their March and April Selections. They both arrived very quickly, like in a week. Yay! Beauty Heroes attempts to make it so that their international members, don't have to pay any additional taxes. Another Yay! Boxes came beautifully packaged and I love that they don't use an internal box. All of the packing materials, except for their mini superhero masks are 100% recyclable.
I wanted to share my experience and thoughts on the actual products of the boxes but this article is already too long as it is. So I'll just quickly show you what's hiding in them. March's Beauty Heroes box with the month's theme "Skincare is Selfcare" featured a deliciously smelling Mangosteen Beauty Drops by SkinOwl (value $85) and Heroic Helichrysum Seasonal Beauty Steam. Mangosteen Beauty Drops contains only two ingredients - raw, organic and cold-pressed South African Baobab Oil and Pure Southeast Asian Mangosteen Oil. I have more to say about the products, but I will leave that for next time. Unfortunately this box is no longer available, but like I said, if you subscribe you can get these products for 15% off in their shop.
Now for the box you can still get the April's box with "Nature is Luxury" theme. In here you'll find a brand with loads of glowing reviews, especially on their hair care line, True Nature Botanicals. This brand is all about natural luxury and for founder Hillary Peterson, beauty is more than skin deep. Her love for nature and gardening inspired her to study aromatherapy and plant medicine and her product formulations show her knowledge. The Hero Product in the box is Exfoliating Moisture Mask (value $90), which actively exfoliates lifeless skin, awakens natural collagen production and boosts hyaluronic acid levels, transforming skin from dull to dewy in just a few minutes. I've only used it once and I liked it. The April's sidekick is True Nature Botanical Travel Size Face Oil and I'm excited to try it.

All that is left for me to say is this, Beauty Heroes subscription based discovery most definitely met my expectations and I totally get the hype around it. It is a wonderful service and really worth the money. You can join and subscribe to Beauty Heroes here. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Hero on!

With love,

Jana xx

The peridot mag

April 03, 2016

Hi lovelies!

I just wanted to pop on here and shared with you an amazing and really exciting news. If you follow me on Instagram then you know what's going on already but if not - we launched The Peridot Mag. No idea what I'm talking about?! The Peridot Mag is a magazine created by Liz from Smells Like a Teen Spirit, Nic from OrgaNic Obsessions, Tamara from Rainbow Feet and a little old me!
(here you can see me and Liz as babies)

We worked super hard for months and a couple of days ago we finally felt our baby is ready to be shown to the world. After sharing our exciting new project we have received so much love and support and I wanted to say a big massive thank you to each and everyone of you for your wishes and lovely comments. I know I can speek for all four of us, we were so hyped, excited, immensly happy, grateful and over the moon about it. The day of launch I couldn't feel asleep and was constantly checking my Instragram feed and going back and forth with my girls. <3 There will be lots of time to write the whole story about our process, our hopes and wishes, but for now let's just leave it that. From now on I will probably be more there than here, so if you like reading my mussings then be sure to check the website on a regular basis. :) Now go ahead and dive into The Peridot Mag, the world of green beauty, delicious recipes, ethical fashion articles and so much more. We all warmly welcome you to check it out. Hope you enjoy!
Thanks again for your love and support. <3

Much love to you all,

Jana xx

P.S. Want to know a bit more about our thoughts and feelings on the magazine? Then read The Vision Behind the Peridot, where we all shared a few words about our thoughts and feelings about The Peridot Mag.
