Three for the Upcoming Winter

November 07, 2014

Winter is coming.

Andalou Naturals Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk
Andalou Naturals Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk consistency
Izdelek uporabljam le zjutraj, običajno kar skupaj s preljubo Konjac gobico.
Cleansing Balm DIY Beeswax, Shea Butter, Argan, Jojoba, Neem, Tamanu
Silkka Garden Apothecary Grapefruit Mint Cleansing Milk

Translation
I don't like cold weather, ugh not at all! And my skin is also not a fan and wants my constant attention. So because it's November I decided to share my picks for face cleansing products that are perfect for lower temperature and snow. Besides facial oils and hydrating creams, I think that cleansing milks and balms are the key to a happy skin in colder months. My skin is so not perfect, but these kind of products really make a difference and help my skin to not look dull, tired and super dry.

Andalou Naturals Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk (get it here) is a fairly new product in my beauty stash. It has a delicious fruity, sweet scent of apricots and peaches. This scent reminds me of a peach iced tea that we always drank on our summer holidays when I was a kid. :) Mmm it smells super nice! Like most other cleansing milks, it is more suitable for dry than oily skin. It's actually meant for very dry, sensitive, dehydrated and mature skin. Well, it also works for my combo to normal skin. It has a thick consistency, more like cream than milk, which is just gorgeous to use, especially in the mornings. I love using it with my beloved Konjac sponge but it's also lovely on its own. It's moisturizing and super gentle. So gentle that I don't use it in the evenings because Nicole says that it doesn't remove makeup. And I trust her so I didn't even try. :) I hate the feeling when cleanser sticks and clumps up my lashes together and does nothing, ugh! But enough of this product, let's move on to the cleansing balms.

The first one is my homemade balm with neem and tamanu oil (similar recipe here).  The two wonderful ingredients, which treat acne, scars, age spots, eczema and so on. They protect, heal and fight ageing. Cleansing balm is suitable for all skin types, but is especially good for combination and oily skin. I really like to use it when my skin isn't feeling its best, when I get spots and other imperfections. Cleansing balms can also be used as a face mask or even a cream. But I don't practise that because it has an unpleasant scent. Well, that's an understatement! Neem oil stinks, like reeeally stinks! Of fish, dirty feet, I don't know how to describe it and I don't really want to, it just smells horrible, okay. But it's effective so I still use it. :) Unfortunately it doesn't remove my makeup, so I use it as a second cleanse. Like all cleansing balms, I remove it with a warm damp cloth. Isn't just the best feeling when you put a warm cloth on your face?? I find it so relaxing!<3

The second balm and my favourite at the moment is the Silkka Garden Apothecary Grapefruit - Mint (get it here). Balm has a very calming scent of mint and grapefruit, I love it! Alongside these two essential oils, it also contains Jojoba and Camelia Oil, Beeswax, Shea, Soy and Mango Butter. Balm contains more butter than my own and therefore it's not so oily. The consistency is just lovely. But when I want to massage my face for a bit I need to add more so I don't drag my skin. The only negative thing could be that you have to avoid the eyes and therefore the product isn't the best choice for removing eye makeup. I think that's because of the Peppermint Oil. But to be honest, I'm used to it, my balm also doesn't remove makeup, and if there were no mint, the balm wouldn't smell so lovely. :)

There you have it, these three lovely products will be in my regular routine for the rest of this autumn and winter. Do you also change your products depending on time of the year?

Love you all,

Jana xx

  8. Would love to try Andalou Naturals soon! And will definitely have to whip up your DIY balm concoction, maybe adding rose essential oil though to offset the strong, pungent neem scent.
