Cleanest Brushes Ever

September 16, 2014

How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Najprej čopiče očistim z Dr. Bronner's Liquid Soap Rose. Milo sem kupila predvsem zaradi čiščenja čopičev in nasploh sem slišala grozno veliko pozitivnih ocen. Oba izdelka delujeta dobro a če želite res čiste čopiče, potem nujno potrebujete silikonsko rokavico. Nedvomno najboljša stvar v celem postopku čiščenja (no, skupaj z Benjabelle drevesom).<3 Silikonsko rokavico sem želela že dolgo.

Translation
A few years ago I didn't even think about cleaning my makeup brushes. I didn't even have any. Well, I had a few eye brushes and a blush brush. I applied my foundation with fingers. I got into cleaning my brushes when I bought a few more face brushes and because of my acne-prone skin I quickly discovered that a clean brush meant clearer skin. Hell yeah! Not to mention that a freshly washed brush is just the best, it applys makeup like nothing else. Clean brushes are like freshly washed bedding, I love them both!
For a long time I washed them with just any old shampoo that didn't contain any nasties like sulphates or silicones, and then dry them on a window shell. But now I have a proper brush washing routine and my brushes were never cleaner and fresher.

I heard lots of rave reviews about Dr. Bronner's Liquid Soaps so I pick up the Rose scented one. You can read more about it here. Everyone seems to love these soaps. Me, not so much. It's okay but when I use it all up I won't repurchase. It does clean my brushes, but not enough. Besides that it's really drying, brushes are squeaky clean but not in a good way. I don't know if that's bad but I don't like it. Because it doesn't clean my brushes like I was hoping it would, and I'm talking about washing one brush two or three times, I have to go in with another product. At the moment I've been loving the Pure Life Soap Rosemary Shampoo. This one is much better at washing every little bit of makeup and I really love the pump. It makes it so easy to use.

Both products work great together but if you really want squeaky clean brushes (in a good way!) then you need to get a silicone oven glove. Definitely the best thing ever! I wanted a silicone glove for quite some time. I first saw the Sigma one and then Sandra wrote about its dupe and I was all over that. I ordered the silicone oven glove mitt like in the same second. :) I'm obsessed! I can't rave enough about it, I absolutely love it and I highly recommend it! First of all, your hands will stay perfectly soft and not dry and rough like it used to. Another big plus is that your makeup brushes will be thoroughly and properly clean. Yaay! :) When I first used it, I was really surprised how dirty my brushes were. It was kinda disgusting. You can see on the photos how after one wash the brush actually looks clean but it's really not. During the second wash the foam is not completely white and in reality it looks even dirtier than on the photo. So you see that I really need it and I think you do too. :) The silicone mitt is just amazing and really affordable. Maybe you already have it in your kitchen.

So, after all my brushes are nice and clean here comes my last and favourite step, sticking them into the holes of the Benjabelle Daisy Tree*. Love, love, love it! It's just so, so easy to use and I can't say anything negative about it. :)

Love,
Jana xx

  10. I didn't know about the silicone oven mitts, I'm going to have to get one!!!

I agree about the Dr. Bronner's soaps being drying. I used one of the bar soaps because it was supposed to be a dupe for the Beauty Blender solid cleanser. I just went back to using a mixture of olive oil and dish soap.

So happy I'm not the only one :) I'm curious about the bar soaps but for now I'm really happy with everything so I'll just stick to that :) I've never tried this mixture but I heard nice things about it :)

  11. What a great idea to just use an oven mitt! I have seen the sigma one on blogs but always thought it to be quite pricey. I will try to get my hands on a regular silicone oven mitt asap!
And yes, Dr.Bronner's is very drying. I have been using my regular organic shampoo on my brushes and it seems to work fine.

  14. Zdaj si me spomnila, kako dolgo sem že zanemarila moje čopiče. Katastrofa..
