Say No To Palm Oil + Gaia Creams Giveaway

April 20, 2014

Zelo sem navdušena nad to nagrado!
Gaia Creams Argan & Sea Buckthorn, Palmarosa & Thistle, Chia, Flax & Hemp Raw Face & Body Cream
Gaia Creams je zelo predana in zavezana boju proti industriji palmovega olja.

Don't Palm Us Off

Obvezno morate:
Nagradna igra traja do 4. maja. Zmagovalke bodo izbrane naključno in obveščene po elektronski pošti. Morajo odpisati v 48 urah, če ne bodo izbrane nove.

Veliko sreče!!

Translation
I'm very excited to announce a new giveaway! This one is sponsored by the beautiful natural, ethical, cruelty free, organic and raw English brand Gaia Creams. The lovely founder Anna will give away three of her gorgeous raw face & body creams of the winners choice. Yes, there will be three winners, isn't this awesome! I'm really happy with the prize, Anna is so so kind! And you know what that means right, three of you will get a cream with your name on it! :) I can't help but to mention it everytime, it's just the best detail ever! You can see on the photo above that I am fortunate enough to own not just one, but three raw creams. I've already wrote about Argan & Sea Buckthorn*and Palmarosa & Thistle Raw Face & Body Cream* and at the moment I'm testing out the Chia, Flax and Hemp Raw Face & Body Cream*.

If you didn't know, at Gaia Creams they care depply about the devastating effects the palm oil industry has on the environment and they refuse to use it (more here). I've already wrote a bit about this huge problem (here and here) but today I'll write some more because I think that quite a lot of people don't know (a lot) about it.
Palm oil is one of the most used fats in lots of products. Oil is so popular because it has a high oxidative stability, has a longer shelf life than butter and other vegetable oils, is relatively cheap and it's versatile. It's almost everywhere, from cookies, chocolate, ice cream, chips to cosmetics, washing powders, detergents, pharmaceuticals, textiles, candles and many more, including biodiesel. Oh my, as you can see it's everywhere!

Palm oil is derived from the fruit of the palm. Most of the palm oil is produced in Indonesia and Malaysia, but there are also some other countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America with palm oil plantations. And for these plantations they need land, which they get by destroying the tropical rainforests. That means the natural habitat of certain species is destroyed, farmers and indigenous people are displaced from their lands and there are also vast amounts of greenhouse gases  realeased into the athompshere. The cost to the environment and the global climate is devastating. Endangered animals such as orangutans, asian elephants and sumatran tigers are on the verge of extinction, but the deforestation is only increasing. Compared to levels in 2000, demand is predicted to more than double by 2030 and to triple by 2050. Indonesia already has 6 million hectares of oil palm plantations, but has plans for another 4 million by 2015 dedicated to biofuel production alone. The country was also in the Guinness World Records for the "highest deforestation" title in 2008. It is also the third largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world, after China and USA.

The palm oil industry is a huge problem which we all have to be aware of and try to make a difference. If you aren't doing it already, start reading labels and ingredients and rather choose a product that doesn't contain palm oil. Watch out for the ingredients that start with palm- (Palmitate, Palm Stearine, Palmitic Acid, Cetyl Palmitate), the oil can also be labelled under Vegetable Oil, Vegetable Fat, Sodium Laurly Sulfate, Sodium Kernelate... Now you don't have any excuse for not checking!

A depressing subject, I know, but I really hope you read it. Now let's go to the fun part, the giveaway. As I said, there will be three winners and each will get a 30ml Raw Face & Body Cream of choice. You can feast your eyes here. Giveaway is Europe only (EU and non EU). If you want to enter the giveaway fill the Rafflecopter form.
You have to:
- follow my blog via Bloglovin or GFC,
- like Gaia Creams Facebook Page and
- leave a comment telling me, do you check if the product contains palm oil or what do you think about the problem.
This is mandatory! Be careful to fill out everything because in the last giveaway the first winner didn't fulfil the terms and that's why I  had to pick another one.
All other entries are optional but they increase your chances of winning. Giveaway will be open for 14 days, till the 4th of May. After that the winners will be chosen randomly and notified by email. I will wait 48 hours for their answers and if I don't get it, another winners will be picked.

Good luck!

Jana xxx

  1. I do look at whether my products contain palm oil or not, I haven't yet managed to completely eliminate it from my products because I use such a variety of brands but if a brand doesn't use or if they have a strong commitment to sustainability then I really appreciate it! Lovely giveaway Jana :) Xx

;) In - super post!

  14. Hi there my lovely Jana, how are you?
Let me say CONGRATULATIONS for this article about PALM OIL. Now a days, it's very important to inform people about the dangerous situation that many forests and animals are living right now. It's so sad and breaks my heart when any animal is suffering, even if I can not see it with my eyes, I'm terrible sorry for what this ugly industry is making, we're gonna pay for this for sure, in the next years...and we, young people will also feel the consequenses.

I try to do my best always, I watch and learn the more I can. I also do not buy from huge companies and i try to warm the people around, telling what is happening and showing articles in the newspapers or sending links thru emails and such.

I truly believe that I we want, we can change this..even with the smallest action, you're doing such a great thing!

SO HAPPY that Gaia creams is against...we must celebrate and encourge brands like this. So my bests for them too.

Big kisses dear <333 and thanks for this opportunity.

    xoxo

Nad tvojimi izdelki in objavami sem vedno navdušena.

  19. Hi Jana,
thank you so much for this exciting giveaway!
I would really love to try one Gaia Cream!
Up until now, I have never checked about palm oil in skincare, but I used to do it in the food. Because I feel really concerned about the natural habitat destruction, in particular for any kind of monkeys, orangutans...
Hope to be one of the lucky ones!
    Mel

Res, malo depresivna tematika, vendar jo zelo prijetno koncujes s super giveawayom. Fingers crossed, :) Urska
